Modeling and Correspondence of Topologically Complex 3D Shapes
نویسنده
چکیده
3D shape creation and modeling remains a challenging task especially for novice users. Many methods in the field of computer graphics have been proposed to automate the often repetitive and precise operations needed during the modeling of detailed shapes. This report surveys different approaches of shape modeling and correspondence especially for shapes exhibiting topological complexity. We focus on methods designed to help generate or process shapes with large number of interconnected components often found in man-made shapes. We first discuss a variety of modeling techniques, that leverage existing shapes, in easy to use creative modeling systems. We then discuss possible correspondence strategies for topologically different shapes as it is a requirement for such systems. Finally, we look at different shape representations and tools that facilitate the modification of shape topology and we focus on those particularly useful in free-form 3D modeling.

Block meshes: Topologically robust shape modeling with graphs embedded on 3-manifolds
We present a unifying framework to represent all topologically distinct shapes in 3D, from solids to surfaces and curves. This framework can be used to build a universal and modular system for the visualization, design, and construction of shapes, amenable to a broad range of science, engineering, architecture, and design applications. Our unifying framework uses 3-space immersions of higher-di...
متن کاملA Novel Toolbox for Generating Realistic Biological Cell Geometries for Electromagnetic Microdosimetry
Researchers in bioelectromagnetics often require realistic tissue, cellular and sub-cellular geometry models for their simulations. However, biological shapes are often extremely irregular, while conventional geometrical modeling tools on the market cannot meet the demand for fast and efficient construction of irregular geometries. We have designed a free, user-friendly tool in MATLAB that comb...
متن کاملTopology-Varying Shape Matching and Modeling
The automatic creation of man-made 3D objects is an active area in computer graphics. Computer-assisted mixing and blending of components or subcomponents from existing example shapes can help users quickly produce interesting and creative designs. A key factor for automating this task is using algorithms that can match compatible parts between objects of different shape and structure. However,...
متن کاملTopologically Correct 3D Surface Reconstruction and Segmentation from Noisy Samples
Existing theories on 3D surface reconstruction impose strong constraints on feasible object shapes and often require error-free measurements. Moreover these theories can often only be applied to binary segmentations, i.e. the separation of an object from its background. We use the Delaunay complex and α-shapes to prove that topologically correct segmentations can be obtained under much more rea...
متن کاملA Macro-model for Nonlinear Analysis of 3D Reinforced Concrete Shear Walls
Architectural limitations in many situations make it necessary for the RC shear walls to be extended in plan in different directions at a single location that makes them a 3D configuration. Analysis of such walls is very challenging. In this research about 450 cases of 3D shear walls are considered with different shapes and heights. L, T and H-shape walls are studied. They are nonlinearly analy...
